Quoth the Raven—”Nevermore.”

Edgar Allen Poe

My grandparents and I were particularly close growing up. I spent a lot of time with my father’s parents and my mother’s mom. I only knew one grandfather—my mother’s father tragically passed away before I was born, so I never met him.

Craig Rollins, also known as Papa—which he was dubbed by me when I was a baby—and it just stuck, was a caring, loving person who always enjoyed teaching, reading, and sharing stories from his past.

One of our favorite pastimes was fishing—he got my father, who in turn got me into fishing, and we would always go fishing together. He used to read Edgar Allen Poe while we were out on the water fishing.

I remember being young and thinking the people in my life, who seemed constant to me, would always be there. There was no way these people so integral to my life could get sick, let alone, die. Until it happened.

The last memories I have of my grandfather are cloudy. I wish I appreciated his presence more than I did.
